Artificial intelligence is part of how many industries work, including media. Book Leaves explores useful tools carefully so we can serve UK readers with accurate, timely news and entertainment coverage. This page explains where AI may appear in our work — and what remains firmly human.
People remain accountable
Journalists and editors at Book Leaves remain responsible for what we publish. Stories are written and edited by people. We do not publish articles generated solely by AI and put out without human oversight. Editorial judgements — what to cover, how to frame it, and whether something is ready to go live — sit with the newsroom operated by Webedia GmbH.
How we may use AI
Where it helps, staff may use AI as an assistive tool. Typical uses include speeding up research (for example scanning large public datasets), drafting outlines or alternative phrasings for a journalist to rewrite, checking structure or readability, and suggesting headline options. Audience-interest signals may also inform planning; they do not decide which stories we publish or how we report them.
We may also use AI-assisted or AI-generated images and illustrations for editorial or atmospheric visuals. Where an image is generated or substantially produced with AI, we aim to label it clearly (for example in the caption or credit). Stock photography, commissioned photography and third-party media remain in use where appropriate and are credited as required.
Human review before publication
Anything that reaches readers has been reviewed by a person. Editors and writers check facts, context, fairness and tone before publish. AI output is treated as a draft or suggestion, never as a finished story or a substitute for reporting.
No fabricated quotes or sources
We do not invent quotations, invent sources, or present AI-fabricated “interviews” as real. Claims that cannot be verified are not published as fact. Attribution and verification follow our Editorial policy.
