Editorial policy
Book Leaves aims to publish accurate, clearly sourced journalism and features for a UK audience. We separate news from opinion and mark commercial relationships visibly. Editorial decisions rest with the newsroom operated by Webedia GmbH.
Ethics and standards
High editorial standards matter to how we work. We aim to be fair, accurate and transparent about sourcing. We are not a member of IPSO or another external press regulator. We still expect staff and contributors to verify stories carefully, respect privacy where the public interest does not justify intrusion, and correct significant mistakes promptly.
Protecting individuals’ rights can conflict with the public’s right to know. Judgements are sometimes made quickly; we review feedback and learn from errors through our complaints and corrections processes.
Verification and fact-checking
We expect journalists and editors to use reasonable endeavours to verify material before publication. Where claims cannot be confirmed, we say so or do not publish them as fact.
Sources and attribution
We aim to attribute facts and quotations clearly. We protect confidential sources where appropriate, while taking steps to ensure sources are reliable and material has been obtained properly. Story provenance is ultimately an editorial responsibility. Tip-offs and reader submissions are treated under our Terms of use; publication is at our discretion.
Third-party material (for example images or embeds) is credited where required.
Accuracy and corrections
Significant factual errors will be corrected promptly, with a note on the story where practical. See Corrections and clarifications for how to request a correction, and How to complain for wider editorial complaints.
Sponsored and affiliate content
Commercial content is labelled in the interface (for example “Paid partnership”) and is distinct from independent reporting. Where a piece contains affiliate or commission-bearing links, we disclose that we may receive a commission if you buy via those links. Advertising partners do not approve news coverage. Advertising is regulated by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) rules that apply to marketing communications.
Independence
Advertising, recommendation placements and sponsorships help fund the Site but do not determine which stories we pursue or how we report them. See also Advertise and our Privacy policy.
